This course is designed to provide students with an introduction to the field of business law and will concentrate on specific legal issues that students may encounter when setting up and operating a business enterprise.

Students will be introduced to the principles of fundamental freedoms under the Quebec Charter of Human Rights, to the rules relating to employment law, intellectual property, formation of contracts and civil and contractual liability. Since most business enterprises are operated as corporations, students will also examine legal issues regarding the organization and operation of a corporation. Provisions of the Civil Code of Quebec along with other relevant statutes and examples of actual court cases will be studied.
