This course is designed to provide students with an introduction to the field of business law and will concentrate on specific legal issues that students may encounter when operating a business enterprise.
Students will be introduced to the principles of civil and contractual liability, employment law, the rules relating to the formation of contracts and the laws dealing with intellectual property. Since most business enterprises are operated as corporations, students will also examine legal issues regarding the internal organization and operation of a corporation. Provisions of the Civil Code of Quebec and the Canada Business Corporations Act will be studied, along with other relevant statutes, examples of actual court cases and sample legal documents and contracts.
